The South County Community Garden continues the farming tradition at River Farm (1972 photo above), and donates the majority of the food to various community organizations - usually 200+ bushels.
Saturday October 5 - 300 bales of straw
Spectacular fall day - perfect for loading up 300 bales of straw from the nearby farmer and loading up the barn...should be enough for two years. Still plenty of sweet & hot peppers, and the sweet potatoes and sunflower heads are huge. Winter garden is brimming full with arugula, red & green lettuce (pick just the outside leaves), tatsoi & bok choi (pick the whole head), radishes, turnips, and three kinds of kale. Spinach didn't germinate. Parsley in the herb garden is beautiful.
