Tussock moth caterpillars and bottle green squash

Did you know our thornless blackberry bushes were all grown from cuttings from a single bush some 20 years ago? They still produced sweet blackberries in July-August. This weekend, we cut the dried-up fruit-bearing canes and trimmed next year's branches. For now, the bushes are host to dozens of colorful tussock moth caterpillars. We also admired the spring in the Egyptian Walking Onion's step. Although the onions looked a little fried this summer, they are shooting bright green leaves that taste like spring onions right now. The fennel and the humongous green squash (bottle squash or calabash squash) are also quite a sight.
